some mandate

No More Mister Nice Blog has this rundown of previously successful incumbents. Check it out. The short version: In the history of successful incumbent Presidents, none has ever won by so small a margin. But we're about to start hearing about a Bush 'mandate'.... ?

in most recent elections, there has been a third party candidate of some kind that has split the vote more. this time there wasn't. that's why 99% of the people voted for either kerry or bush. unfortunately bush got 3% more of the vote, but it's not like he got 51% and kerry got 33%. it was a tight race and he did not win by some "overwhelming majority."
